Do you work with clients over the phone?
Yes. And also by video-conference through Skype. And in person too.
Describe how I get started with a free initial consultation?
I work with individuals and organizations in several ways: at my office, by phone sessions, by video-conferencing sessions, and in the case of organizational clients, at their offices.
If you are serious about pursuing counseling with me, just call and schedule a free initial phone consultation, which can last up to one hour. I'll have a chance to ask you about your problems and goals, to listen fully, quietly and deeply—and you will have a chance to ask me about my work, methods and services.
My personal change services provide processes by which you, as a client, learn to take my knowledge and skills in change processes, and apply them for solving painful problems; and for your personal goals; for your prosperity; for making a difference in our ever-changing world; and for furthering the quest for meaning in the journey of your life.
After your initial free phone consultation (which is up to one hour) you will know what I can do for you.
How do I set up an appointment for personal change?
Just call or e-mail me and request an appointment. Indicate a day and time of the week (or two) that work best for you. Then I'll call or e-mail back with an offer of an appointment. Appointments can by by phone session, by video-conference session, or in person.
What are your fees?
My fees are often quite affordable, because I have a sliding scale.
Pay by the Hour
With any new client, we negotiate a mutually agreeable per-hour fee for the counseling I provide. It is based on both what is affordable for you, and me, and takes into account standard, market-value rates for counseling services as well as your income and financial circumstances. My sliding scale allows those with special circumstances or lower incomes to work with me.
Pay by Focus on Value
An alternative way I negotiate fees for my work with clients is by pay for the change. In this mode, we discuss the value for you of achieving your goal, in the event you did achieve it, with my help, knowledge and support. We compare ideas and scenarios. And then, if we reach an agreement on a fee, then you pay about half of that up front, in the context of an agreement whereby I work with you for a period of time. This period of time may be three months, six months, or longer. About half-way through, presuming you are satisfied with the progress we are making, you then pay the balance of the fee. I keep working with you in scheduled in-person appointments, by phone, by email, as needed, for you to achieve and often exceed, your goals. The advantage for my clients in this approach is that, at most, they make two investment decisions. And I work with you as you need my help. The advantage for me is to be paid, not only for my time, but also for my knowledge, experience and effectiveness.
What are the duration and frequencies of our sessions?
Whichever way we agree to work together regarding fees, each session may last for an hour or for several hours. Sometimes there is little need to delay the process of development and problem-solving by having sessions which are too brief. In those cases, it is better for clients to have intensive, longer sessions to solve a problem and achieve a goal.
A series of sessions that deal with a particular issue or solving a particular goal may involve six hours or double or triple that. Some clients go through a series a sessions and reach a desired goal and then go for a time without any sessions while enjoying a new way of living for a time. Then, sometimes, a new problem and a new goal emerges for which more sessions will help you go to the next level of development, learning and change.
Your work with me is a process by which you, as a client, learn to take the best patterns of cognitive science and apply them for solving painful problems, for your goals, for your prosperity, for making a difference in our ever-changing world, and for furthering the quest for meaning in the journey of your life.
After your initial, one-hour fee consultation you will know what my services of therapeutic change can do for you.
Can I pay you for my work online with PayPal?
Yes. If you have a Paypal account, you can use the PayPal Pay Now button on the upper-right side of the Contact page.
How long are sessions and how many will I need?
The length of each session will be up to a scheduled maximum, which can be a minimum of an hour, and can be more hours. For local clients, the usual maximum session is three hours. But due to the nature of the session it may be less than that. Clients only pay for the actual length of the session.
It can be as few as one and as many as dozens over a period of years. It depends on your situation. Some of my clients participate in counseling to achieve a narrow, simple goal.
Others seek to achieve broader, deeper, more complex goals, or a series of goals through time. In any case, you determine the goals in consultation with me. And you determine how many sessions you need.

Can I get reimbursement from my insurance company for counseling, hypnotherapy or coaching?
Sometimes. I will file forms or send itemized billing letters that your insurance company requires to help you pursue your reimbursement for fees paid to me.
Which methods will we use in our sessions?
The methods of counseling are selected by a combination of your interests, situation and goals, and my three decades of counseling and clinical experience.
For more details about these processes, see my articles on this website in the section called Theory and Practice. In particular, I've written an article titled Theories for Personal Change which describes my methods and processes in considerable detail. How do I get to your office?
